COMMUNITY SERVICE.
Embracing my role as a ‘global citizen’ and an engaged student, I have been taught to believe in the profound responsibility to contribute to the well-being of my friends, classmates, and the community I live in whenever possible. I have had a chance to meet people and learn from them about the importance of this, most notable two people while I was in India. Dipesh Tank and Pravin Tupule. I have covered their story in my podcast and video stories on YouTube.
They left a huge impact, and I also generated a sincere desire to extend a helping hand where I could in my very own small way. I have actively participated in various volunteer initiatives. This page is dedicated to sharing my experiences and reinforcing my commitment while shedding light on some of my experiences where I've been fortunate enough to make a positive impact on the community. Each endeavor, though small in its own way, reflects my genuine dedication to fostering positive change and creating a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
ANTI-TRAUMA.
This is my first full fledged social project and it definitley was a life changing experience. My work with the awareness campaign - Anti-Trauma that I started with two of my friends had perhaps created a much needed impact on our community. This campaign was created while I resided in Mumbai, India. This topic was an interesting and less known problem in India, where only recently, in 2010, hitting students in school for the sake of discipline was abolished. The main purpose of our campaign was to improve awareness about child rights and PTSD, and hopefully that has led to a little decrease in the cases of child abuse and PTSD in Mumbai and all other places in India where participants joined. During the process of the campaign, we were supported by the organisation Child Rights and You (CRY) for this project and interviewed Rakshanda Inaam, a well informed psychotherapist and an associate general manager at CRY.
My major contributions to the team involved planning the approach taken to achieve the aim and its methodology, since one of my strengths is critical thinking and reasoning, which helped me to do these tasks. I also contacted different organisations and plausible interviewees, such as the personal assistant of Kailash Satyarthi and many of the officials belonging to Child Rights and You, to arrange the interview with the help of my communication skills and awareness of the topic. I also analysed patterns in the findings from the surveys and quizzes we conducted and wrote down constructive conclusions with the help of my critical analytic and linguistic skills. I likewise explained and wrote down the reason for the methodology and its outcomes, which entailed planning the surveys and quizzes and explaining the need for them, as well as explaining the data collected during the awareness campaign that helped us achieve the aim. I assumed a leadership role, and the main strengths that I added to the team were planning the next steps and recovery if one failed with an optimistic attitude and proficient planning skills; assembling the group members; and constantly setting objectives to complete with the help of my diligence and effectiveness.
KNOWLEDGE SHARING.
"The beautiful thing about sharing knowledge is that it not only enriches the recipient but also empowers the giver, creating a cycle of enlightenment that has the potential to illuminate the world.“ I read this somewhere. It’s a loaded quote, but its something that I identify with. I don’t have money to share, but I have the little knowledge I have from school and other mediums. And I can help share that where I can. I use multiple mediums to do that, but one thing that I truly am passionate about is peer-to-peer learning and collaborative growth, as only when your community is growing with you can you reach new heights. The reason behind it is that I feel it is a really efficient method of learning because, using the power of the collective, you are open to a plethora of views and opinions as everyone is using their genius. Additionally, I have been trying to implement peer-to-peer learning by engaging in group activities, setting up classes for my juniors, my podcast, my YouTube videos, my blog, and very soon my own app. I have also been volunteering at my school's tutoring center and have amassed over 100 hours of tutoring. For my efforts and leadership within the tutoring center, I have been awarded the title of Lead Tutor.
My aim is to develop a platform using my tech knowledge where I can mobilize the power of my fellow students and create a movement to share knowledge in the far off places with limited connectivity while using technology to reach those in need. More on that soon.
I do have stories to share in my ShaansKrit section about some experiences in the recent past. Please do read.
